Whether you are choosing to have one or two or lots of bridesmaid dresses, as part of your wedding party they will be an important part of your big day, accompanying you down the aisle and in many of your wedding photographs. You bridesmaids are likely to be close friends and family, people that you care a lot about and naturally you will want them to look stunning (although obviously not quite as stunning as you). There are lots of decisions to make when it comes to your bridesmaids from the colour and styles of their dresses to which colour bouquets they will carry. Here are just a few ideas on how to choose a colour scheme for your bridesmaid dresses:
Colours that compliment your Wedding dress
This is probably one of the most important factors in choosing the colour of your bridesmaid dresses. If you have opted for a white or ivory dress, you can pick from a huge selection of bridesmaid dress colours including pastels colours, bright jewel colours and everything in between. Other options that would look amazing is bright red and burgundy bridesmaid dresses with gold or nude coloured dresses. If you have picked a brightly coloured wedding dress, then you could always opt for more low key bridesmaid dresses in a beautiful shade of grey.
Colours to compliment the rest of the wedding party
Your bridesmaid’s dresses do not have to match the outfits of the groom, best man and ushers but it would look great in the photographs if you could have colours that compliment each other. How about yellow ties and cummerbunds with pale blue bridesmaid dresses or light pink dresses and burgundy ties for the men. For maximum co ordination in the wedding photographs, you could also speak to your mother and the mother of the groom and let them know what colours the bridesmaids will be wearing so that they can wear complimentary colours (but hopefully not the same).
Colours that compliment your bridemaids
Even though it is your big day, you will also want your bridesmaids to look and feel great. You can do this by picking out colours that suit your bridesmaids colouring. Generally speaking, those with warm skin tones look best in shades of orange, red, brown, gold and yellow, whilst those with cooler skin tones will look best in shades of blue, green, purple and pink. The more the contrast between skin and hair colour, they brighter and bolder the colours that will suit them will be. This can be difficult if you bridesmaids all have completely different colouring but you can try your best or even consider having different coloured bridesmaids for some really colourful wedding photographs.
Consider Bridesmaids dresses in more than one colour
Whilst most bridesmaid dresses are one colour it makes a refreshing change to see a bridesmaid dress with a floral print or pattern. This would allow you to choose dresses with a pattern on a white background for an unusual look to compliment a white wedding dress. You could also look for coloured dresses with white trim.
Why not have a look in your local wedding dress shop and see which colours catch your eye?
